The pig is a much-maligned animal, but in Chinese and Southeast Asian traditions it is considered a symbol of prosperity and abundance. Though this album was written and recorded during a period of numerous personal calamities, it was also born from a rich collective force that is fierce, resolute and loyal – also qualities of The Pig. Conversely, its shadow side is celebrated via dystopian themes, digital soundscapes and dirty guitars.

 

In a world that wants us to consume rather than create, generating creative currency feels like a necessary act of resistance. While our art schools and music venues are closed down, our books burned and music banned, Year of the Pig spins round and round with its rock-psych vibes and post-punk sentiment battling it out on vinyl.
